What Coaching Means To Me

I remember quite a few years ago I had a friend who mentioned they were getting a life coach. I laughed and made some comment about how it seemed unnecessary and it was dumb.

Looking back, knowing what I know now… she was on to something.

Isn’t it funny how we immediately reject things we don’t understand? I wish I’d taken the time to ask my friend questions about why she was seeking out a life coach. I wish she would have shared what she was working on the benefits she saw from it.

I wouldn’t discover life coaching myself until many moons later.. like a decade. (If I’d had a life coach back then I know for 100% certainty that my life would look very different today!)

Since I discovered life coaching and got myself a coach I have discovered a bajillion new things about myself and I have achieved more than I even thought I’d want to.

I was someone who life just happened to.

After high school, I went to the university in town (it was the University of Texas at Austin so that was clearly a great choice!) because some of my high school friends were going and it wasn’t that far from home.

In college, I stumbled into my major (European Studies) because I wanted to study abroad. I had no real career I wanted to pursue. I was in school because that’s what you’re supposed to do.

After college I did some internships and eventually got a job in marketing. It worked out since I had been a Red Bull Girl in school because one of my friends told me to apply. I’d have a good job for a few years then something would happen, the economy would turn or there would be a corporate restructure (or bankruptcy).

Life just happened to me.

Until 2020 hit. My partner had recently asked me what I wanted, like really really wanted (out of life). I didn’t have a good answer.

So with no job and no where to go – I started searching.

I found a daily yoga practice. I started a Yoga Teacher Training and learned about yoga both on AND off the mat. I started practicing really breathing and meditating.

Then I was introduced to a course that promised to teach me how to upgrade my life. –> SIGN ME UP.

What I didn’t understand at the time was that I was joining a whole new world, one of self development and life coaching.

I started working with a coach and the floodgates opened.

I discovered that all those people on Instagram who talk about “manifesting” weren’t crazy.

If you put your mind and effort into achieving something specific you can really do it!

I was discovering my life’s purpose. I was coming up with action plans to determine the steps it would take to achieve all the things that I never thought I could.

Having a Life Coach is having someone to talk to about your fears of failure and your dreams. My Coach is my sounding board. They don’t give me the answers. They help me see what I really want just by listening.

Since discovering life coaching, I have:

  • A supportive relationship with my partner where we talk about all the things
  • Said “Yes” to things that scare me or make me anxious
  • Created a business helping other people
  • A way to make money from anywhere in the world
  • ZERO debt and a growing savings/investment account
  • Enough time to do all the things I want to do

Having a coach has helped me do more than I ever thought possible. Now, I can say that I’m one of those driven people chasing their dreams. I can say I’ve been transformed and I’ve found my passion.

I owe it all to coaching, but most of all I owe it to myself because I am the one who has done all the work. <— And that is what coaching is really all about.
